How to Add a Signature to a PDF Online

Adding a signature to a PDF is a routine task for contracts, authorisation forms, and official documents. This guide explains how to place a signature image on any page of a PDF using PDFEverything — for free, without installing anything.

What you need

• The PDF file you want to sign
• A signature image (PNG with transparent background is ideal; JPG also works)

If you do not have a signature image, you can:

• Sign on paper, photograph or scan it, and crop to the signature
• Draw your signature in any image or paint application and export as PNG

Why PNG with a transparent background?

A transparent-background PNG makes the signature appear to sit naturally on top of the document content. A JPG or PNG with a white background will show a white rectangle around the signature, which looks less clean.

Most modern image editors (including basic ones) can save a PNG with transparency — just erase the background before saving.

Step-by-step: signing a PDF

1. Open the Sign PDF tool

3. Upload your signature image

4. Place the signature

Is this legally binding?

For purposes such as internal approvals, informal agreements, or jurisdictions where a visible signature image is sufficient, this approach is widely used.
