How to Split a PDF into Separate Files

Splitting a PDF lets you extract specific pages, break a large document into chapters, or separate a combined file into its individual parts.

PDFEverything offers three splitting modes — this guide explains each one and when to use it.

Three ways to split a PDF

1. By page range

Extract a specific range of pages — for example, pages 1 to 5 — into a separate PDF. You can define multiple ranges to produce multiple output files in one operation.

When to use it: Extracting a chapter from a report, pulling out a specific section to share separately, or removing the first few pages of a combined document.

2. By fixed segment size

Divide the PDF into equal segments of a fixed number of pages. For example, splitting a 30-page PDF into segments of 10 pages produces three files: pages 1–10, 11–20, and 21–30.

When to use it: Breaking a long document into parts for review, dividing a scanned booklet into individual articles, or preparing chapters of a consistent length.

3. Into individual pages

Export every page as its own PDF file. A 20-page document produces 20 single-page PDFs, packaged in a ZIP archive.

When to use it: Separating individual invoices or forms from a batch scan, extracting every slide of a presentation, or preparing pages for individual archiving.

Step-by-step

1. Open the Split PDF tool

Go to PDFEverything — Split PDF.

2. Upload your PDF

Drag and drop the file or click to browse.

3. Choose the split mode

Select page range, fixed segment, or individual pages from the mode selector.

4. Configure the split

  • Page range: Enter the ranges you want (for example: 1-5, 6-10, 11-20).
  • Fixed segment: Enter the number of pages per segment.
  • Individual pages: No extra configuration needed.

5. Download the result

If the split produces one file, it downloads directly. Multiple files are packaged in a ZIP archive.

Tips

  • Splitting does not modify the original PDF.
  • Pages that are not included in any range are simply not extracted.
  • ZIP archives can be opened on any operating system without additional software.

All processing runs in your browser — your PDF is never uploaded to any server.
